Berlin (29/1 – 66.67). The Federal Government protects freedom of expression and emphasises the outstanding importance of independent media and fact checks by civil society. However, the Federal Government takes a firm stance against the deliberate dissemination of false information. Below are examples of disinformation which the Russian government is continually spreading via various platforms, including in Germany, in connection with its war of aggression against Ukraine. The Federal Government provides the facts to confront this disinformation. The usual claims are debunked by the German government. The range from the incredible to the laughable. Here the top five examples: Claim:…
Washington D.C. 21 January. The ink was not even dry of President Trump’s presidential inauguration the president swung into full action. With the energy of an angry bull he went like the statesmen he has become of rearranging American society. Executive Orders concerning the Freedom of Speech, weaponization of the political system against a political opponent, cancellation of the Paris climate accord, which is dead, the exit from the World Health Organization (WHO), and the overturn of the convictions for 1,500 January 6th protestors (J6). Trump calls them political prisoners. Pelosi, Biden, Schiff are wiped off the table, despite Schiff…
A Thai court has sentenced Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn to death for allegedly poisoning at least a dozen people. The case has drawn national attention due to its serial nature and her connections to a former senior police officer. Sararat killed her friend, Siriporn Khanwong, last year by spiking her food with cyanide, then stole over $4,400. The court highlighted Sararat’s gambling addiction, which led her to commit murder and robbery to settle her debts. The case gained more attention after CCTV footage showed Sararat with Siriporn before her death, which was later confirmed to be cyanide poisoning. Further investigations revealed cyanide…
The train click-clacks along at a steady rhythm, passing through various shades of green. Lush rice fields morph into dense forests, while rivers glisten in the morning sun. The verdant, tropical landscape is briefly interrupted by colorful sparks of life in the form of towns and villages, where people are going about their morning routine — street vendors serving breakfast to commuters, women carrying fresh produce back from the market and kids gathering in their red and white school uniforms. This is the view from the Argo Wilis Panoramic, a bright and airy carriage on the Argo Wilis train. Running…
After Tajiks were charged with a deadly attack in Moscow, the country has cracked down on signs of Islam. But experts say it’s not addressing the causes of terrorism. People in Tajikistan were expecting a government crackdown after Tajik men were arrested and charged with a terrorist attack on a Moscow concert hall in March. But it still seemed excessive to Nilufar, a 27-year-old education professional, when she saw local authorities with scissors outside a K.F.C. in Dushanbe, Tajikistan’s capital, trimming beards that were deemed too long. Excessive, but not so surprising. In the span of a month, Nilufar herself…
The Tajikistani authorities are perpetuating systemic discrimination and severe human rights violations against the Pamiri minority, according to new research by Amnesty International. The Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO) in East Tajikistan is home to several ethnic groups forming the Pamiri minority, mostly practicing the Shia Ismaili branch of Islam. Denied official recognition as a minority and regarded as ethnic Tajiks by the central authorities, Pamiris face systemic discrimination, suppression of cultural and religious institutions, political oppression, and brutal reprisals for defending their rights. “The ongoing persecution and human rights violations against the Pamiri minority in Tajikistan reached an alarming scale…
Brussels/Dushanbe (10/8- 75) Once more Tajikistan comes on the radar screen. Who will be the next president of Tajikistan? How is the ban on the hijab helping the deradicalization of Tajik society? What is the role of the Chinese and Russian influence? And how is the relationship with the European Union coming along? Every year we face a plethora of Tajik issues, for example corruption and drug usage involving officials, now the ban on face veils, or the newest version a ban on black clothes. The desecration of the grave of one of leaders and the promotions of killer squad…
Women’s clothes are high on the government’s agenda once again in Tajikistan, where authorities and Islamic leaders are working on new guidelines on what women should wear to work and during their leisure time. The new dress code — the second of its kind in six years — is expected to be made public in the coming days, and a special event is reportedly being planned for the capital, Dushanbe, in August to showcase compliant clothes. Sulaimon Davlatzoda, the head of the state Committee for Religious Affairs and the Regulation of Traditions, told a press briefing in the capital this week that…
Washington/Vienna/Berlin (10/8 – 45.45)After a tip-off by U.S. intelligence officials and only a few hours left Austrian police made swift arrests. The plot seems too bizarre not to be true. Abul Baraa, aka Ahmad Armih, the German based hate-preacher in Berlin radicalized via Tik-tok or Istagram a 19-year Beran A. to swear the oath of alliance to the Islamic State. Apart from directly stirring up frictions in the South China Sea region, it has been found that the Philippines has cooperated with some US anti-China forces to launch a cognitive warfare that defames China on the South China Sea issue, to hurt China’s international image, and drive a wedge between China and relevant countries in this region. Recently, the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI), a project under the US’ long-established conservative think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), released a report on “environmental threats” in the South China Sea. The report, which groundlessly claimed that China has destroyed…
