China’s badminton players only managed to qualify for two semifinals at the Thailand Open on Friday.
In the women’s singles, He Bingjiao had a rather easy match by strolling past home favorite Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-10, 21-19. But her teammate Han Yue was no match against top seed An Se Young of South Korea, losing 21-16, 21-18.
In the men’s doubles, Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang delivered the other victory of the day for the Chinese team as they came from behind to thwart Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 16-21, 21-15, 21-12.
Ren Xiangyu and Tan Qiang went down in another quarterfinal 21-16, 21-14 against Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won Ho of South Korea.
In the men’s singles, Lu Guangzu fell short of upsetting home favorite Kunlavut Vitidsarn 18-21, 21-14, 21-11.
The only Chinese women’s doubles in the quarterfinals – Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning ended their journey by losing to Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee 22-20, 21-14.
No Chinese players qualified for the mixed doubles quarterfinals.
